True Leaders

Anderson and Cayden traveled to Utah with their Scout Leader and were able to go to the Priesthood session of conference. It is weird to me that they are having this awesome experience without me or John there to share it with them. I guess I need to get used to it. In a few years they will be having tons of amazing experiences in college, on their missions, in marriage. I was so dang excited when I checked Debbie's blog and there was a photo of my boys! Cayden is second from the left (and bald) while Anderson is front and center with the grey tie. Can I just say how thankful I am for good leaders. Scott Ashton and Brandon Mitchell took both my boys to Scout Camp at Fire Mountain in August. The second night of camp Cayden became very sick. He was feverish, sick to his stomach and pretty much down right miserable. He wanted us to come and get him (it was about a four hour drive) and we were ready to do just that. Nothing is worse than being sick and not being home in your own bed. These two wonderful men not only took care of Cayden and kept us up to date on how he was feeling, but they are worthy Priesthood holders who gave him a blessing. Cayden had a good night and felt much better in the morning. As a mother I am so grateful that these leaders are the kind of men who they are. It didn't matter that my children were away from home because even without their parents nearby they were in the best possible hands. These men don't have to live the life they do, but I am so blessed that they choose to follow Christ and be such an example to these young men.

I love that picture of the them in front of the temple. They are all so handsome. Future missionary pic. Jory called last night and all I heard was laughter and good times. This is Nicki by the way. I forgot to log Kylie out.

What a neat experience for your boys Amy. I think I take advantage of the fact that I have General Conference going on in my own backyard every year since I can remember. They will remember that experience forever. I still remember when you guys came down with Aunt Kim and Uncle Richard for conference time!

Enjoy the rest of your conference weekend!

Believe it or not, I've heard it said more than once that it's not aproppriate to praise people in their callings too emphatically. It is supposed to be assumed that of course they will do the job that is expected. Well to that way of thinking I say, POOOOOO! My children have experienced really loving, dedicated, go the extra mile, leaders. Loving leaders who will never be forgotten. And sadly, there have been a few who were just the opposite. They were so self-righteous, judgemental and single minded that the only thing they cared about were RULES. When you are dealing with the youth, of course the rules are important but never, ever as important as each individual child. One of those leaders who treated my child so badly, as to even spread untrue rumors about her, now has a daughter who is living such a horrible life and has left the church so far behind her that at one point I believe she almost had the courts take her children away from her. So much for that Young Women's president.
Thank you Amy,for showing the loving appreciation that righteous, caring, youth leaders should always be shown. Sure it may be their calling but TEN cheers for those wonderful people who treat our children as Heavenly Father would have them be treated.
And what a heart warming picture of your dear sons.

That's really cool. :) I would love to go to conference in the actual room where they are speaking.

If they're lucky, they'll get to eat at Crown Burger before they go too.

You are right. These men are wonderful leaders and great examples for the boys in our ward. What a wonderful memory for these boys!

Andy went back in April with the young men from our ward, and had an amazing experience... I'm sure by now, you've heard all the great stories and are reliving it with them.

I can't agree strongly enough with you, and Susan, about the importance of people who truly magnify their calling. My own 20+ years of running from, and hating the Church, was largely brought on by bad leadership... Now I see the amazing men and women leading my own children, and I'm in awe that it's even the same title on their callings!

That is soooo awesome. It's leaders like them that make the difference between young men going astray and falling away from the church, and young men staying strong, building their testimonies, and preparing to go on missions. You are SO blessed to have them teaching your boys.
