Thursday on Vancouver Island & Adobe Tips

We spent Thursday in Nanaimo where the ferry comes in. We filled the day with shopping, walking along the pier and playing in channels of water with plenty of sea life. Cayden preferred to see how long he could dribble his basketball in and out of his legs without messing up. By trips end his record was well over 200 and I can't believe out of 234 photos I didn't get even one of him with his basketball!

I am learning so much about Adobe Photoshop. If you like the look of Sydney's pictures in this post and the pictures of my kids along the side bar here are the simple steps in Adobe Elements to get the same result:

STEP 1 Choose a Color Photo and open it in Full Edit.

STEP 2 Press the letter D. This will set your Foreground color to black.

STEP 3 Press the B key or click on the Brush Tool.

STEP 4 Go to the Options Bar (The bar that runs directly along the top of your workspace) and

change the Mode pop up menu from Normal to Color (At the very bottom of the list)

STEP 5 Click on the Brush thumbnail (the painted swoosh) and choose a large soft edged brush

from the brush picker.

STEP 6 Start painting. As you paint, the color in your photo will disappear. Paint everything

except the items you want to remain in color

Let me know if you try this and it works for you!

Your vacation looks like heaven!

I was just talking with a few ladies last night about how you should offer a photoshop class. I know a lot of people who would be willing to PAY to attend.

You are doing such a great job. I am getting just amazed. You have to do as your SIL said. Classes. I love that idea. We would pay.

Your trip just seems so fun. Glad you had the chance. Did you see the fire start at the end of road 80 last night? That is how close the lightning struck our neighborhood Amy. Then we had no phone service to call the Fire Dept. I felt so helpless. Luckily the rains came tumbling down and put it out.

Good job and keep on clicking the camera.

Oh & the picture of Allie with the paper all over her. That was her art project. They cut pictures out of magazines & were supposed to glue them onto a paper. But she chose to glue them to her as a shirt!

Those photo's are incredible. You have a really keen eye for composition. You should enter some of your pictures in the Fair. Keep it up and one day you could have your own studio.

How fun it was to catch up on your posts! I can't wait to play with the photoshop color stuff. I need to go out and take specific pics for it although I have figured how to change the color so I guess I can pretend the color is whatever I want. My sister in law did bring the book up to the cabin so I got to read it. It was good but a little too happy ever after how everything gets all tied up into a pretty bow, it would have been a little more real to me to have a little crappy ever after for someone. But I wouldn't want to choose who! :) Anyways those caves look so fun and scary. Im looking forward to your talk. Im not a good one to ask because I just try to live in a happy bubble with no tv. I like the no free agency thing. Im working on that! :)

Thanks for the tutorial! Your pictures are great! And I agree with "dandee" and the "few ladies" - you should offer us a photoshop class. I know I could learn a TON from you. I can't wait to try this.

Hi. I found your blog from Lisa's blog. I have Adobe Photoshop, I use it but still don't know a lot about it. I tried this and it's awesome!!! Your instructions were so easy to follow. Anytime you want to include any other Adobe tips that would be so much fun!! Your pictures are beautiful. What a talent you have!
