There has been a shift in the way I look at parenting. I am enjoying it the way I always wanted to. It is still hard but I am finding myself spending more time having fun with the kids than yelling at them. I have been taking a Love and Logic class at the school and it has helped me realize that I need to treat parenting like Heavenly Father treats us. He sent us to earth to learn and to experience both the good and the bad. But he didn't just abandon us without any guidelines. Christ came up with the perfect plan, one of choice and accountability and that is exactly how I feel I should raise my kids. I plan to teach them through example and loving conversations what is right and safe and true. But I will also let them know that I will always love them no matter what choices they make and I will follow through and allow consequences to happen. Parenting is tricky...everyone has an opinion on how we should or should not raise our kids. But I think my best bet is to follow the only perfect example I know, don't you?

oh, I so needed that. You are the second one to mention love and logic. I better go check it out. As of now I'm going to mommy outer darkness. I need to do better.
Love and logic really is the way to go. I was young when I had my children and I probably did more yelling then I should have. I feel like I am a much better grandmother then I was a mother (though my 5 kids say I was a great mom) As a grandmother, I am more relaxed, I enjoy my grandchildren, and I don't ever raise my voice... It's one of those "wow, I wish I knew then what I know now" deals. I'm glad you are "getting it" Amy it's a win/win for you and your whole family.

LOVE the picture! :-) I need a refresher course on Love and Logic...I read a couple of the books a few years ago, but have since let it all fall by the wayside. It would be nice if I could take the course WITH the hubby, so we're both on board. How has that worked out for you?
Beautiful, inspirational words Amy!
I'm so happy that I didn't stop at Kelly like we planned. I was a better mom for him than for Donald and especially Heidi. But for Shawn and Courtney, I was in a totally different league. I enjoyed every second of raising them. It's been hard letting go of the guilt of my mistakes with my oldest two, but I have to remember that Heavenly Father was the one who decided their order so hopefully I didn't mess up too badly. There's just something about being an older more experienced mom isn't there?
I so wish those love and logic classes would have fit into my schedule this fall. I could really use them right now, as 2 of my kids have been REALLY TRYING lately. The book is great, but I love being in a class setting where you can really discuss the parenting, you know. I'm glad you are "getting it" but in my mind I thought, "Hasn't she always had it?" You seriously have yourself great kids, Amy!
This sounds like a wonderful book with - as the title states - parenting "logic". I will have to pick up a copy! Thank Amy!
I love this picture and I totally agree...
Amen to Love and Logic. Love the picture.
Youre a great parent! We all are! We are the only ones that know our own individual child. We know what works best for them! Cheers to parenting!
We took one of those classes a long time ago.. I have several of the cd's too but haven't listened to them....
Great thinking!
Perfectly said Amy J.! If I could just remember this, every day.
Yay. I totally agree. :)
The other day I took a page out of your book and charged my kids for having to pick up their rooms.
